Fitting SUP Racks

Sonja and I have an inflatable stand up paddle board each that we use for paddling around. We decided that they took up too much space inside when deflated, and so they stayed outside. And if they’re going to be outside they may as well stay inflated. But where to put them? We tried a few places around the deck, and eventually thought to put them over the side, out of the way.

Has this worked? Well… yes… and no. In general, most of the time it’s great having them on the outside of the rails. Except:

  • The genoa sheets have wrapped around them.
  • A mooring line got caught between a stanchion and the attached rack.
  • They get in the way when coming alongside anything high (mooring poles, jetty, wharf, …).
